The New Theatre is situated in the vibrant and historic City of Oxford, and has been the home of variety for over 100 years. The current theatre was opened in 1934 and incorporates a stage revolve and retains its art deco interior. With a capacity of 1785, the theatre plays host to leading opera and ballet companies, West End musicals, contemporary dance and sell-out pop and rock concerts.   2014 sees a very busy season of shows: Cats, Ghost, Shrek the Musical, Riverdance, James Arthur, Del Amitri, Jimmy Carr, and many other sell out performances. You will be joining a committed team who work on some of the most exciting tour dates in the country.  

We are looking for a casual Box Office Assistant to ensure the highest standards of customer care and physical environment are provided to our customer groups (customers, hirers, visiting companies and staff alike).  

Key Responsibilities:  
  • To ensure all company policies and procedures as well as license requirements are adhered to by all department personnel.    
  • To ensure a friendly, helpful and competent service is provided to our customer groups at all times by all department personnel.    
  • To ensure the physical environment is presented to the highest standards at all times.    
  • To provide an efficient box office sales service through operating a computerised ticket system.
  • To answer all enquiries received at the Box Office by having a good understanding of the Theatre and its productions, and to be able to advise customers on the best seats for their needs.    
  • To ensure all essential box office equipment is in full working order and sufficient stock is on site to fulfill the service to our customer groups.    
  • To ensure that any targets requested by management are delivered within the deadlines set.    
  • To work with other department staff to ensure the promotion of all events, including attending events off site where applicable.
  • To ensure that all income received can be accurately accounted for and is always adequately secure.    
  • To attend company or internal training sessions or meetings, outlined and agreed in advance, either on the premises or otherwise.    
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties as outlined by senior management.    
The role is a casual position and entails flexible working hours, which will include Saturdays, and evenings, in line with the TMA / BECTU Agreement. Salary will be outlined at time of application.
