Careers Guidance Personal Advisers – Casual and Fixed Term Contracts (Essex)
CXK are seeking to recruit fully qualified Careers Guidance Personal Advisers to work on a Fixed Term and Casual basis in Essex, primarily in support of our Step Up and First Step projects (funded by European Union).
We require self-motivated advisers who can deliver independent advice and careers guidance and initial assessments in a flexible way to 14-19 years old (up to 25 years old for clients with learning difficulties). We would be particularly interested in hearing from applicants with an interest in and relevant experience of project work, engagement activities and group delivery to young people.
A qualification to Level 4 in careers guidance and experience of working with young people are essential.
Successful applicants would be asked to work on an ‘as and when required’ basis or on a fixed term contract, dependant on skills and experience. A flexible approach and the ability and willingness to travel is required.

Main duties and responsibilities:
• Responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all by providing individual personal support and advocacy to people where the service is offered.
• Manage a caseload of individuals ensuring that their progress is monitored and all contacts recorded on IYSS, The National Career Services database or other appropriate databases as required (and that records are updated within 48 hours were necessary)and that appropriate, timely interventions are delivered.
• Engage with people to identify barriers to their progression in life in education, training and ultimately employment. This will include the use of appropriate assessments and enabling them to identify choices and the progression routes available.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with a caseload of individuals, using a variety of one to one approaches and group support. 
• Work with partner agencies to develop an effective, multi agency approach to meet the needs of those you work with. Develop and maintain an understanding of the role and work of external agencies, service providers, employers and training providers. 
• Contribute to the effective running of the service by managing information. This will include sharing information appropriately and in line with the Data Protection Act, maintaining accurate records promptly and undertaking tracking and appropriate recording.
• Remain knowledgeable in the CXK service offer to clients (schools, FE establishments etc) and remain up to date with the products on offer from CXK to ensure the individual needs of clients are fully met. 
• Generating leads from existing clients and publicising the CXK service offer within the school networks and other networking opportunities
• Working to targets as set by the Company
• Develop and maintain a full understanding of government initiatives to help individuals to make informed choices on the range of learning and employment opportunities and provide relevant research and information to clients such as national trends
• Develop and maintain personal and professional effectiveness by participation in performance review processes/observations and by attending relevant working groups, training and support activities. 
• Undertake such other operational duties as may be required from time to time as directed by CXK Management 
• Where necessary, complete a programme of study leading to an appropriate Level 6 qualification or equivalent

Competencies
Education and Training Essential Desirable
• Relevant qualification in Careers Guidance (e.g. LDSS)
• Qualified to Level 6 in Careers Guidance
• Relevant qualification in, for example, education, training, guidance, counselling, youth and community work, health or social service work or work in the voluntary sector 
Knowledge and Experience
• At least two year’s experience of face-to-face work with people in a formal or informal setting. e.g. youth work, community programmes direct work with young people:
• A thorough grasp of the issues affecting people particularly the impact of social and economic disadvantage on personal motivation, confidence and progress through education, employment and training.
• Experience of working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds or specialist knowledge of the needs of individuals from particular groups.
• Experience of managing a caseload of young people to meet targeted outcomes.
• Up to date knowledge of local opportunities and resources to aid progression.
• Experience of working with adults in one to one and group work situations
• Experience of working with young people in one to one and group work situations.
• Experience of being a part of the development and delivery of project work
• Good keyboarding skills and a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office in particular Word and Outlook
• Efficient data inputting skills that show an attention to detail and an understanding of the impact of this work
• Experience of delivering engagement activities and groups support and skills development to young people.

• Ability to work effectively with others, co-operate with colleagues and help the team to achieve its goals.
• Feeding back outcomes to partners for example writing termly reports for schools; evaluation of projects
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
