Job Purpose:
You will be required to receive and check incoming equipment against customer manifests. Identify and correctly label customer’s equipment ready for processing through relevant departments.

You will also move materials and work in progress around Workshop as and when required and load and unload customer lorries according to Delivery/Production Schedules.

Key Accountabilities:
  • To load and move raw materials, work-in-progress and finished components.
  • To operate mechanised materials handling plant and equipment including overhead cranes, forklift trucks and road vehicles.
  • To complete all paperwork and reports required.
  • To ensure that the work area and all plant and equipment are maintained in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
  • Cleaning of equipment so that it’s ready for Production.
  • To operate simple machinery.
  • Removal and Disposal of Hazardous Waste.

Skills:
  • Ability to drive FLT’s and operate Overhead Cranes would be of advantage but not essential.
  • Ability to correctly use slings and lifting equipment.
  • Ability to carry out general housekeeping without direction.
  • Basic numeric is needed together with some knowledge of weights and measures. Capability to do simple arithmetical and clerical tasks and the ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the managers, other members of staff and customers.
Knowledge & Experience:
  • Previous Despatch experience is desirable, but not essential. 
  • Must be capable of working without constant supervision and must be customer orientated.
  • Must be physically fit and reaching LT Medical standards of fitness as appropriate to the job.

The job holder must be committed to the London Underground General Safety Policy statement and the Company’s safety programme and be aware of his/her contribution to the programme, including the requirement to monitor safety performance and compliance with the systems established to assist in maintaining high safety standards.

The jobholder must be familiar with the safety legislation that is relevant to his/her post and comply with the necessary statutory requirements. These will include the Health & Safety at Work Act, Fire Precautions Act 1971 and associated regulations.
