Overview

The Red Cross is the largest voluntary humanitarian organisation in the world. It promotes humanitarian values and provides emergency help to people in short-term crisis in the UK and overseas. Within the UK, the British Red Cross (BRCS) operates through 50,000 volunteers and 3,000 staff.

Scope

The BRC 'Assisted Discharge Service' aims to help prevent unnecessary admissions and overnight stays in hospital for vulnerable people.  We provide transport and resettlement services and an overnight sitting service to users being discharged; primarily from A&E and help them to build confidence once returned home.  The transport and resettlement service operates from 4pm to midnight, with an overnight sitting service continuing until 8am. It operates 7 days a week for 365 days a year.

Overall Purpose of the Posts

We require both Casual and Part Time Service Assistants to support the Service Co-ordinator in delivering the Assisted Discharge Service across 2 hospitals in Bristol, which serves users in the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire areas (The service could expand to serve other hospitals in the future).

Casual Service Assistants are primarily required to provide individuals with safe transportation home and resettlement support. They may also provide overnight support where necessary.

Part-Time Service Assistants are needed to ensure that we can offer an overnight sitting service (from between 8pm & 8am) whenever required.  A minimum of one night per week availability is essential and flexibility regarding which nights can be covered is desirable. This service is currently contracted to run until end of July 2015 but may be extended.
