Summary of the role
At Waterstones, our Booksellers are our ambassadors to our customers and a fundamental part of who we are. As a Bookseller your principal task will be sharing your passion for reading with our customers and inspiring and helping them to discover new books and writing. You will work as a team to make sure that your book shop is a pleasure to shop in by creating attractive displays, shelving books and ensuring that you consider how best to do this for your customers. Being a Bookseller is a demanding role and requires energy, enthusiasm and an ability to engage with different people.
What will I be doing?
- Prioritising our customers above everything else
- Greeting and engaging in conversation with our customers
- Answering customer queries, identifying suitable books or other products that meet their needs and sharing your passion for reading
- Maintaining high standards of presentation throughout the shop, from implementing displays, to making sure books are clearly priced, tidying and shelving books
- Working with pace and energy in a busy environment
- Constantly developing and widening your knowledge of books across all genres and sections
Our shops work closely with each other, sharing staff and expertise. You may be required to work in other branches within a reasonable distance/travel time of your designated home branch. Please see "Additional Locations" above to view if this role includes working across more than one branch.

At Waterstones we are committed to investing in your development. Our Waterstones Academy will support you to learn everything that you need to in your career as a Bookseller. You may even have the opportunity to complete a qualification in the form of our Certificate in Bookselling.

This position is offered on a fixed term basis, with the contract expiring at the end of December 2013. The expectation is that you must be available to work on December 24th and 26th.
