Storage and Backup Assistant (QMUL2827) Queen Mary, University of London is one of the UK's leading higher education research focused institutes. With around 3,000 staff and 15,000 students, Queen Mary has four main campuses spanning Central and East London and delivers world class degree programmes and research covering a wide range of subjects as a multi-faculty institution. About the post A storage and backup assistant is required by the Data Centre Services group within IT Services to help maintain and support essential college IT. It is our strategic vision that the Data Centre Services group will host all of the colleges' non-research server hardware and common infrastructure software. The group is currently responsible for over 500 server machines and provides a platform for college IT. This is a challenging position for a bright, motivated and enthusiastic person. The successful candidate will assist in running the College's storage and backup systems and will contribute to the general running of the Data Centre Services group. Candidates should have attained qualifications to the A-Level, NVQ Level 3 or BTEC Level 3 standards in an area relevant to IT. Operational experience: Operational experience of enterprise disk array systems. Disk types, RAID and JBOD. Operational experience of LTO tape technology and management. Operational experience in running enterprise tape backup systems and tape libraries. General operating system knowledge: RHEL, Solaris, Windows 2008 r2 Monitoring and reporting: SCOM, Cacti/Nagios. Experience of common networking service protocols TCP/IP, SMTP, HTTP, DNS and LDAP and modern software that provides such services is also desirable. However, it is generally expected that the post holder will develop skills in these areas when in post. Responsibilities The post holder will be responsible for various operational and development aspects of the central storage and backup systems that the college operates these will include maintenance of enterprise level disk storage, robotic tape libraries and a variety of other services. The post is full time and permanent. Salary will be in the range £24,973 to £30,805 per annum inclusive of London Allowance Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
