Reporting to: Senior Media Manager
Location: London
HLF Grade: E
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) distributes the heritage share of funds raised by the National Lottery. We allocate around millions each year to an amazing variety of projects including historic buildings, fine art, industrial heritage, wildlife, cultural traditions, parks, and places of worship – in short everything that has been important in the formation and the character of everyone in the UK.
We are continuing to develop our national media relations activity – especially within the consumer press and with radio, TV and the web in order to pro-actively promote our work and achievements in these areas.
The post-holder will report to the Senior Media Manger and ultimately to the Head of Corporate Media.
The corporate team is currently made up of the Head of Corporate Media, 2 x Senior Media Managers (one part time) with specific responsibility for national media awareness of the HLF/NHMF.
The role includes servicing both internal and external communications needs.
Specific duties include:
1. External Communications - Media Office Duties
Media Responsibilities
• Applicant liaison and press release drafting and distribution to support monthly grant announcements, openings and events as appropriate including drafting of statements
• Specific areas of responsibility for supporting grant programmes including Parks for People, working closely with partner organisation, the Big Lottery Fund (BIG)
• Work closely with National Lottery Promotional Unit (NLPU) to provide information and be main liaison point for NLPU-related activities and enquiries
• Proactively identify and create ‘added value’ opportunities for enhanced news/feature/broadcast coverage of HLF across national and specialist media linked to corporate communication objectives, especially regarding promotion of Young Roots and other young people-related projects
• Developing and nurturing close working with partner organisations
• Day-to-day handling of media enquiries, deciding on appropriate response and keeping the line manager and department informed as appropriate
Housekeeping Responsibilities
• Manage media training for Regional and Country Managers and other senior spokespeople as required
• Take overall responsibility for the corporate media office media database ensuring it is regularly updated, accurate and comprehensive
• Continued development of HLF’s Twitter profile along with other forms of social media

• To consistently monitor HLF website and upload Corporate Media Team press releases to ensure key stories and information are available as appropriate
• To develop good working relationships with internal departments, particularly Operations and Strategy and Business Development, to ensure accuracy of all media activity
• The preparation and dissemination of internal and external corporate PR calendar dates to share with colleagues, stakeholders, NLPU, partners, as required, highlighting any potential clashes with HLF activity
